What is it like to be the parent or sibling of a deaf child?

I am just wondering, out of curiousity, what is it like to be the parent or sibling of a deaf or hard-of-hearing child? How is it different? How is the same? What challenges do/did you face and how do/did you resolve them? Did your child/sibling attend mainstream school or another kind? Any additional constructive comments?
