Is he playing mind games with me?

i have this friend, who used to like me romantically, but i rejected him. Then he moved away, and after three years later i talk to him again. I dont know why, but i had a crush on him. And we mainly contact through mails n ims, n sometimes see eachother. The thing is sometimes he acts too attached. Like he is my boyfriend and the next thing he is ignoring me n then he apologizes and tells me what a jerk he is and he is sorry and then he does it again. I mean is he trying to get revenge or something, because he always mentions how i rejected him(jokingly)..or am i paranoid..?
