Can you help me with a freeview problem?

i recently bought a new tv with freeview built in. When i plugged it into our ariel and tyred to source the channel i only got the bbc channels. not itv or any others. we have an ogue ariel and i know a digital one is beeter but is there anything else i can do to get some more channels? thanks
